Design Week 7: Major Milestones and Set Development

This week was a big one for our project! We nearly wrapped up our set production and received great news from our two biggest make-or-break areas. With the planning commission's approval, we are ready to finalize our set and submit for our building permit next week.

06/25/2019 - Day 19

The amount of collaboration required for such a rapidly paced project has been incredible. With the 10 of us students working on it non-stop, our project develops with leaps and bounds from one day to the next. Everyone has their own tasks to complete, but it is all done with the input and collaboration of others in the class and of course Professor Rügemer. Tasks range from drawing the plans and building models to reaching out to vendors for materials and community support. We are gaining real world experience in everything that is part of making architecture possible.

06/26/2019 - Day 20

Today was a big day of answers. Two of the biggest make-or-break answers we have been waiting on came back with the verdict we were hoping for! First, this morning another visit with the power company confirmed that yes, we can build without having issues with the existing power lines as long one of the lower lines is moved to another location on the property. Second, tonight we had our project presented to the city planning commission for approval of the conditional use permit. We, along with our friends at Assist, our wonderful clients, and those who have been helping us from the city were there to present our project and show that it was worthy of approval. We received an enthusiastic yes from all members of the planning commission, were commended on our embrace of the new ADU guidelines, and applauded on a wonderful collaborative project that is exactly what the ADU guidelines are meant to achieve.

06/27/2019 - Day 21

After the exciting successes of yesterday, today was devoted to wrapping up our production of the permit set to be submitted next week. We will now review everything we have produced so that any corrections can be made and the set finalized by the end of the semester next week. Newly completed renderings of the project show just how far this project has come in the past seven weeks.
