Build Week 21: Framing Wrap-up and ERV Installation

With framing nearing completion, we are moving on with plumbing, electrical, and even some mechanical!

Week of January 28 - Days 39 & 40

A big goal of the week was to get everything ready so that come next Tuesday, we will be ready for our framing inspection. This is our next big milestone because once we pass this, we can start to install windows, cover the roof, and start to close up the interior. The majority of our framing has already been completed, so this week we finished adding the parapets and other sheathing that needed to go on. Since we initially framed the building off-site in panels, a big part of our on-site framing has been making sure every panel is securely fastened together. That was largely accomplished by metal straps at each connection. This building is nice and strong now!
After our framing inspection we will have our 4-way inspection, and work on our electrical and ERV unit continued this week to be ready for that. The ERV, or Energy Recovery Ventilation, is coming along great and will serve the space perfectly for its heating and cooling needs. It's different than what you typically see used in homes; just one more way this home is setting the stage on how to build better, more energy efficient buildings in Utah.
