Build Week 19: Advancing Beyond Reassembly

This week we completed reassembly of what we built on campus and moved forward into new territory!

Week of January 14 - Days 35 & 36

Starting our construction on campus in panels last semester allowed us to start construction months earlier than if we sat around and waited for the permit, but it also brought with it the need to disassemble, transport, reassemble, and adjust for changes between campus and the actual site. It has taken some time to get back to where we were at on campus, but this week we finally crossed the threshold into new territory, and it feels fantastic!
The week started off snowy, but that didn't keep us from putting up our last panels, officially completely the main massing of our building! It looks so good on the site and fits its permanent home perfectly.
Now that the panels are all put back together, we were able to complete our upper roof with joists and sheathing with extra blocking below to further strengthen our roof. On our lower roof we added the parapets. On the lower level we further tightened our connections by attaching our sheathing between panels and began sheathing our upper level.
You might not typically hear this on a job site, but we love having our clients, the Kunga family, right there on site with us each day we build. They are such a wonderful family and we love when Mrs. Kunga, who we are building this ADU for, comes outside to watch the progress.
It is so amazing to be moving forward and seeing the home progress with each passing week. The satisfaction that comes with the success far outweighs the freezing cold and snowy days, being super sore each day after we build, and the extra time commitment between our other class responsibilities.
