Build Week 17: Fall Semester Wrap-up

This week we continued to put our panels in place and wrapped up our fall build semester.

Week of December 10 - Days 31 & 32

This week we continued to reassemble our prefabricated panels. We discovered that the slab is not as perfectly level as was our base we built on campus, so we have had to make a lot of adjustments to get the panels to fit back together as good as they did before. But we are figuring it out and things are coming together!
A lot of what we did this week continued with laying down the foam tape strip, placing our panels on top, and anchoring them down with the embedded anchor bolts. We also did more backfilling, still with plenty of dirt left in our pile. For our structural connections we drilled holes and put in epoxy to make nice strong connections. It is slower work, but we are making sure that it is done right.
Every day that we are on site, the Kunga family is so amazing to us. They often come out and help us with the construction. They provide us with hot, delicious meals that celebrate their amazing culture. We really couldn't ask for better people to be working on this project with.
This week marked the last build days of the fall semester. While we wished to have had the building completed by this point, the delays of permitting/etc. made that impossible. We are still extremely proud of where we have been able to bring this project too. We were able to reassemble our lower level panels on a well insulated and radiant heated slab. Even though our formal commitment to the project is technically completed, we are all invested in this project and want to see it through completion in the spring semester. It has been an amazing experience these past two semesters, and come January, we are excited to finish this home off right.
