Build Week 16: Panel Reassembly

With our concrete foundation cured and the holiday weekend over, we got to work this week reassembling the panels we built on campus as well as insulating and back-filling the slab.

Week of December 3 - Days 29 & 30

It was so awesome to come back today and see our concrete foundation all ready to go! We've spent weeks getting ready for this and now it looks fantastic. There was more work to go on the slab however, including insulating the edges of the slab where the form work had been. Once that inspection was complete we were able to backfill the dirt against the foundation which made our construction site much easier to navigate.
Other preparations on the slab included cutting the expansion lines, cleaning the edges and then painting on a primer sealant, which was then followed by a foam tape seal around the perimeter of the building. A lot of preparation goes in before the walls can actually go up.
With all that prep work complete, we were able to start reassembling our panels! To make sure that everything lined up with our embedded elements, we started from the center post and worked out from there. Reassembling the pre-built panels was not as simple as it might sound. There was still a lot of shifting and adjusting required to get everything to fit back together nice and snug.
It is so nice to finally be attaching everything together permanently. We are glad that panelizing was an option because that made it possible to be working while we waited for the permit, but it brought its challenges in what could be attached initially. Now it all is going together super strong and not to be moved again.
