Build Week 10: The Walls are all Up!

We are getting close to completing our on-campus phase of construction and seeing a lot of progress. This week we put up our last wall panel and the ADU is looking great, better than we could have imagined!

Week of October 22 - Days 17 & 18

The nature of our project calls for a non-linear approach to building. To work around our waiting for the permit, we get creative with the approach and it is working out great! We have progress going on all aspects of the project from the construction of the building itself to the fabrication of the furniture and metal shading. As the needs arise, we shift our numbers to different tasks, but overall things are progressing rapidly. This week we saw a completion on our wall panel construction! They are all in place now and we can finally see the full effect of our building and its fantastic double-height space.
A unique aspect of this project is that not only are we designing a house, but also the furniture in it. A key piece of furniture for the Kunga family is their couch since it will give Mrs. Kunga relief from her wheelchair. It is the last piece of furniture we have to build, and this week it started coming together.
With our cabinetry all complete, this week we started cutting our countertops. They are going to look stunning! Our metal work is nearly complete as well. These heavy pieces of metal will give the building one of its strongest visual features.
Every day is a great one for us in Design+Build Salt Lake. Bring on another week!
