Build May 2020: Continuation of the Facade, Drywall prep and installation

Progress is still slow, but this month a lot of time was spent to prepare the building for drywall, obtaining the appropriate inspections in order to do so, and to continue the work on the facade.

Throughout May - Facade Installation Continues

Starting with the bottom board (which needs to be carefully nailed to the substructure because the nails on the lowest siding is visible), each board gets added and adjusted to the metal frames around the windows, light cans, penetrations or ERV ducts.
Assist of Salt Lake City, who are also the architect of record, was paramount in getting a large amount of facade mounted during those days they were able to come out in May. Their group of volunteers worked on finalizing the east and north facade, where they had to work around windows, exterior ducts and the scuppers on the roof.

The detail for the corner will be a 1x1" milled steel L-profile that will age and match the character of the facade boards as well as the sun blades installed throughout. It also allows for a simple element to be installed, rather than cutting all corner boards at a 45 degree angle.

Drywall Installation

Over the last two weeks of the month, a professional crew installs the drywall in the building. All air tightness measures, as done by the students, have been finalized, and the building will be tested for its airtightness performance before we install the Aero Barrier after drywall, mudding and sanding has been completed.

Meanwhile....

...the Kungas started to grow their own produce for the season, supplementing their amazing food and their cooking skills with really fresh ingredients.
